JLR couldn't find the fault until I saw your post. I have the 2013 Evoque 2.2 Diesel Dynamic 6 speed. Bought the battery from dealership and changed out the auxiliary battery and all working now. Awesome post, thank you.

I have a 2014 dynamic 6 speed automatic. Unable to locate the auxiliary battery. Having the Gear box fault error and unable to turn selector to park.

Hi @Rangelambo - this thread is a bit confusing as it mentions the second stop/start battery which is different from the early gearbox one.

FWIW This is just an owners forum, so it's always good to start with a "Hi, Hello, please, thanks" when asking for help...

This is a very interesting thread and confusing at the same time.

Do we know which cars/models have 3 batteries and which have two batteries?

Also, after reading all this, this is what I understood so far:

1- Main battery (12-14V 80Ah) powering all the electronics.
2- Secondary small battery (12V, 14-15Ah) helps with the start/stop function.
3- Small battery (12V, 1.42Amp) under the glove has something to do with gearbox fault?

EDIT: After researching found that 3rd small battery is backup batter and used to retain the memory settings while the other two batteries are being replaced. Not sure how that has a link to gearbox fault.

Anyone with confirmed information?

While having a nose around under the battery cover I discovered what looks like a smaller secondary battery sited next to the standard 80Ah Battery.Any idea what this powers up - I'd take a wild guess at something to do with the alarm system?
Afraid I Could'nt make out any markings on it

Hi,
I realise I'm resurrecting an ancient thread but hoping you can help? My recently bought 2014 9 speed auto has stop/start but the second battery is missing. But also the + lead which should connect to it. I guess it was removed to eliminate any risk of a short. I was hoping you may be able to tell me where this + lead from the 2nd battery runs to? -I need to reinstate the system as I have various other eletrical issues and by having the S/S connected properly, I'm hoping to eliminate it from my enquiries...

Hi Danny,
Do you have a 6 or 9 speed gearbox? -I think the consensus is that if you have a 9 speed, there is no auxillary battery under the glovebox -just the 2 under the bonnet (main and start/stop). If you have a 6 speed you should have 1 main battery under the bonnet and the auxillary under the glove box. I hope that helps.

I never found a second battery under the bonnet of my 9 speed auto MY16 car. I believe some don't have it.

Yep- my 2014 car has it, but I do suspect they converted to a single (AGM type) battery in later years. I don't know enough about later models I'm afraid. Someone will probably come along and say they have a 9 speed with a main under the bonnet and an auxillary under the glovebox now!

Funny you should say that.......

actually, I dont even know where the main battery is, let alone if there is another one anywhere 😁

Here’s what I’m seeing. Does anyone know where the auxiliary battery would be if not under the glove box?
The very 1st post of this thread shows the position of the secondary start/stop battery just behind the main battery under the bonnet.
Mines an October build 2014 with 9 speed GB - I assume yours is earlier being the 6 speed?

Welcome to the forum.
MY16 onwards doesn't have an auxiliary battery.

...As i've the message" Low Battery " the only one to change is the big main.
Whoa! - Don't be so hasty with that warning message, as almost everyone seems to get it for no apparent real reason.
It started on mine when it was just 2 years old - its now 6.5 years old & I've still got the original battery ( and the same needless warning flashing up at least once a week)
With mine, the local dealer first suggested I take it there for a charge every few months or so, but when it was out of warranty I went & bought my own charger for the car that simply connects via a connector on the grill. Max 7 hours later = fully charged battery again (y)

Ok understand
Some can ask Range Rover to change the limit in the ECU from 13 Volt to 12.5 V ? 😁😁😁

I've already abattery charger indicated "Battery AGM 100% charged" and i still get the same message :(:(:(

My old Audi Q3 doe'nt have this kind of problem...
