Hi @merv.irving75
I have a 2013 and previously had other cars with the Asin auto box in our cars.
Clunking can by be mechanical or software.
This is what I have done as mine had a slight clunk but is now much better.
1 check the stabiliser bars at the top of the engine on the right hand side and also directly underneath in the same position. The bushes should not be split, (top bush is a void bush so should have a gap around and be attached too and bottom. Mine were fine.
2 Gearbox fluid does degrade over time, I changed mine three times, and will change it three more in summer to get it nice and pink again. Fluid is AW1 spec and I paid about ÂŁ100 for 20l from Smith and Allen, enough for six changes. (I did a diy guide will post link)
3 Reset the gearbox oil degradation counter after the change so the box knows the new fluid.
4 Reset the transmission learn as mentioned above.
Mine immediately felt more responsive and smother and after a couple of days of learning it’s new fluid and settings is really smooth and the slight clunk has gone. You can feel when you select drive as in any fwd automatic as the engine rocks but the clunk has gone.

I have read there is a specific software upgrade for 2012/13 cars but can’t find it.

Ignore anything about 9 speed and ZF boxes they are completely different to ours.

Hope this helps.

I would suggest work through the options I listed above. These boxes can get clunky when the fluid gets old.

Hi,

I have a 2012 Automatic Prestige model which I've has since January with no major problems. Although I have this intermittent problem I'm hoping someone can shed some light on.

Have searched the internet for a solution but I can't find anyone who has had exactly the same problem as me!

The issue is when I go from either Park, Reverse or Neutral to Drive sometimes there is quite a big jerk or clunk when Drive is selected. Once the car is moving I don't have any problems with the gearbox moving up or down through the gears. It's just the initial selection of drive that makes the car jolt.

It also doesn't always do it but seems to be happening more and more often.

Anyone have any idea?

Thanks
Were you able to solve the issue, I’m dealing with the same thing

I'll post here again with the solution to this problem.

My car (2013 2.2 SD4 - Aisin 6sp Auto) had the same 'jerk' when pulling away from rest after the car had been running for approx. 30min. The fix was to apply a software update as per the JLR Technical Bulletin (see attached file). Admittedly, this is for the North American market but there is an equivalent version for the UK market that the main dealer found on their system. I don't have a copy of this but suspect it's almost identical.

If you read it you can see it refers to downloading some software revisions and then performing the adaption procedure specified in the bulletin. This was performed by my main dealer back in May 2024 and some 10k miles later I can report the car hasn't jerked once.

Admittedly, my car had only done 64k miles at the time and the gearbox fluid had been replaced in the past few months, so you may also have some of the issues that Binty has described and he's kindly provided how to guides, so worth checking these out.

I know of at least three members on here that have now had these software updates completed and none of us have reported any issues since.

Here's the link to my original thread: Range Rover Evoque 6 Speed Auto Gearbox Judder - Fixed

Hope that helps?

I’m the original poster for this thread. My evoque still has this problem! I had a gearbox oil change and it made no difference and this may be a coincidence or maybe it’s linked but after the oil change I now have a juddering gearbox when going up inclines and I either have to come off acceleration or increase speed to make the gearbox change gear to stop it juddering.
Hi sorry I know this a couple of years ago now but mine also does exactly what yours is with the juddering up hill, did you get an answer ?

Use the search bar for gearbox issues there's plenty of threads and replies on this subject in the meantime try the gearbox reset thanks to @Maffy

Hi Maggie, my latest post #47 on this thread explains how to fix this. Here's a link to that post: #47

Essentially, you need a software update that can only be preformed by a main dealer. Land Rover issued a Technical Bulletin to all main dealers telling them how to fix these issues if a customer came in complaining of these problems.

Feel free to PM me if you need further help fixing this. This seems to be a poorly reported fault across the internet that is giving these cars a bad press, when it can be easily resolved by some software changes performed by the main dealer using main dealer diagnostic equipment.

2015 disco sport, 9 speed. Clunk and bang sound when selecting D but this only happens after the car’s been driven up to temp, and I stop for 10-15 mins, and start it up again, select D and bang. Sounds like it comes from the back of the car. When selecting D and going to set off, it’ll rev and go nowhere then the jerk and bang from the back. Got to neutral and back into D and absolutely fine. No issues when driving. Anyone with any new info or diagnosis from a dealer? Also no error codes when scanned. Also had the fluid changed, was fine for 2 weeks then did the same old once again.
