You could well be right, but the direct result is that the gearbox is smoother, no more jerkiness between 1st & 2nd, yes much more responsive throttl. so it could be that
I ain't no mechanic.

Also if it's the engine management reset and not the gearbox then it should speed up my manual too. Will try it when I get home.

Googling the instructions shows lots of forum chat...

On a BMW forum I read:
"I understand the reset procedure is for the throttle adaptations. The
fact manual transmission users also use this procedure to get a more
responsive throttle and say it works, indicate this is the case."

So perhaps it's not just for autos?
Sometimes I think I'm talking to myself

Who said that? I did notice your post and I think you are right, I am sure someone with one of the manual things has tried it and had success, will have a look back.

I tried it, let me just nip out and try it again

Just an update on this: Since I reset my throttle, performance has improved greatly - much smoother to drive, quicker pick up etc etc but....my fuel economy is averaging 24.4 around town. Got to tread a bit lighter on that pedal...

Ours is up in the late 30s purely urban stop start driving

Once reset, you will find all the benefits of it apparent, quicker response, no lag etc, however as you will have driven your car for quite a while as was, it is the driver who needs to adjust to the responsivness, with a lighter right foot, hence that is why your MPG seems to lose something, also the car is re learning your driving technique.

Great advice - I'm bookmarking this thread for future reference if needed. Just a stupid question though - does this trick also work on the "new" Evoque (MY20)? (just to be sure) ?

Here are the instructions on how to re-set the memory on your Automatic Gearbox.

1) Press Start button but don't turn on the engine.
2) Press the Accelerator down to the floor for about 15 seconds.
3) Hit the start button again to turn off the power.
4) Remove foot from Accelerator
5) Waity for 2 Mins.
6) Start the engine and Drive.

Simple but very effective- you WILL notice a difference- it re-sets the learnt driving/gear changes back to factory- re do as and when required.

Hope this helps.
Thank you for the tip Maffy; I read that some of the readers have done this and MPG suffers (gets worse...); is that true?

HI Steve

Did the MPG which went down ever normalise Steve? I was thinking of resetting the auto gearbox but might give it a miss if the MPG is at risk of getting worse;
