I can't grasp this. Can someone tell me in layman's terms what it is and is it fatal for a 2016 2.0ltr engine ?
What is it ?
Is there a recall to have it repaired ?

I must admit that I’ve always had a second car which is petrol. I’ve previously always used that car for any short trips when I’ve had a diesel as my main car.

Now at least having the P250 as my main car, I don’t have to worry.

I had hoped that going to an in line engine in the Velar would improve oil dilution compared to the transverse layout in the Evoque but both seemed to be practically identical at 23 months for an oil and filter change.

And what gets me is the fact that even since the launch of the new one they from what I gather have not changed the design fault before relaunching..... just more awareness to the problem if you’re at a good JLR dealership.... WHAT HAPPENS when these cars reach the dealerships that are not JLR and unaware of problem ...someone’s buying a year or two old car with no idea of the issue , no warning of driving style.... bit like all the people who bought the 2 litre models in 2016 up until the new version was launched no information until 2017 in a deviously written paragraph in handbook....

I clearly didn’t research enough before my purchase, I also didn’t read any RRE handbook, and I wasn’t given any warning or advice by the dealer. I actually asked about Oil Dilution when I did the handover, as that was something I had heard about, but I was told it wasn’t something I needed to worry about for a long time, then given a very brief description as to what Oil Dilution was, but no mention that MY car was going to suffer from the problem. I was never asked about my driving habits (style). I even said it was the first diesel I’d had because I don‘t regularly do long journeys.
As I said in another thread, I have been letting it spoil my ownership, waiting for the inevitable dpf fault, but I’ve decided that I am just going to drive my car & enjoy it. If it doesn’t break, bonus. If it does break, get it fixed. If it breaks too often, sell it & at that point probably keep as far away from JLR products as possible.

Great attitude , you should just enjoy it ....I’m not slating these cars I just feel that it’s undefendable in there handling of it.... I read recently someone had to sign a disclaimer that the issues had been explained when picking up a new one.... to me that’s a admission of guilt

My 2016 2L....is a absolute nightmare. Yellow to red warning with no chance of anything other than a forced regen at dealer . Costs £1200 in last 7 months now waiting to have new DPF fitted at £1400 . Its had software updated oil changed and is fully maintained to JLR spec if it is not cured by DPF change its going to have to be sold . I love the car but do need to actually do more than 1000 mls between garage visits . Did someone mention DPF delete ?

I think it’s all about awareness to the issue , if JLR are not informing people of it then the more it’s documented the more chance it will make others aware...I don’t know why Revoke is getting such a hard time for highlighting the fact that this is a major problem with this ... in my opinion it’s a scandal , I find it hard to understand how anyone can defend the stance JLR have taken , if people are coming onto these forums before buying a affected model to research then surly awareness to there driving style and potential issues that are possibly going to arise is a good thing .... just think Veteran for example lost all faith in his car to the extent he sold it after very short ownership, someone is going to be sold that car and if they are not being told by salesmen of this issue then by posting as much information of it so customers are aware at least they have a choice of buying knowing what there getting into.... yes some members on here are fully aware of the issue but as historical posts show many are not....
Spurds..... have a look at warranty direct site.... unlike JLR ...there warranty covers the DPF if cannot be cleaned ... if you take unlimited option for garages hourly cost it can be taken to JLR garage anyway ... mine was £340 , Doogi just did his for £370 I think it was ... this is half the price of JLRs warranty and covers a lot...
Can’t understand why anyone with the 2 litre engine would take a JLR warranty if the most problematic problem with the model is excluded ... no brainier in my eyes

Its not the engine itself at fault here, ok its probably not the most refined engine but it serves its purpose in other models, its when its fitted in the evoque or the DS where exhaust architecture lets it down, same engine in the other models isn't having the same issues. Its interesting to note though that other manufacturers are having oil dilution issues too so what is their problem, are they not passively regening either, is their exhaust architecture the same/similar, how are their dealers dealing with the situation?

People say this n that, oh i'm selling up, had enough of JLR, engines ****, dealers ****, well whoever you pick your just jumping from one fire into another, all manufacturers seem to have issues with EU6 diesels, I agree though that JLR have made a complete horlicks of this and the way they've handled it and being very underhanded in changing literature and blaming driving style and even getting new owners to sign a disclaimer stating you can't persue a blocked DPF or oil dilution issue

If people think this is only affecting JLR and even then its only some vehicles in the range then go ahead jump ship and make the change, good luck with that i say

Best just get a petrol or an EV

It will be interesting to see what is going to happen with the new ingenium diesels being rolled out for the My21.
A 165hp and a 200hp.
I hope they have fixed the balancer shaft issues that happened to a relatively small number of owners.
As regards Revoke, I don't think people are having a go.
We all agree it's a scandal too.
Providing all the valuable info for members is good to to help with rejections as well.
But, it's a case of providing the information in a balanced and neutral way.
Also accepting this is an issue across a lot of manufacturers as well.

Agreed but the other manufacturers at a guess didn’t change a paragraph in there literature and pass the blame to driving style .... instead of a umbrella in the boot as a free gift JLRmight as well put inn a brush and a rug......this is what I find so annoying... it doesn’t even affect my engine as have the 2.2 , I just feel strongly that it’s a immoral thing to do, that and the fact that that paragraph and no advice was given at purchase when knowing full well the problem exsists.... and then excluding it from warranty .... do other manufacturers do this ? I don’t know , Just know this is undefendable and any help on the issue for the poor unfortunate people that are shelling out 1000s now to remedy it should be highlighted .
As regards the new diesel models then as far as I’m aware it exactly the same layout , some dealerships as mentioned are now having disclaimers signed saying the issue has been explained .... admission of guilt to the previous owners ..... this and the fact I highlighted in another post that nearly new evoques are sold at dealerships out with JLR umbrella and there salesmen have no information on the topic , so if someone has returned one for this reason and it ends up in let’s say Arnold Clarke what chance have they got, unless they do there research first and in most cases when buying a prestige car should you really have to find out it’s not fit for purpose after you have purchased..... makes my blood boil

and further to this if a new member comes on asking for advice of what model to go for I think it’s our duty to be honest and share what we know... maybe the page JLR published last year ...the quick survey asking what mileage etc and what engine might suit them best ... perhaps one of mods could put it on a fixed thread ...
Driving style when purchasing 2016 models onwards with a link to JLRS page , as I’m sure not all dealerships when selling these models are advising there salespeople to advise...at the end of the day there there to sell cars and as we all know it’s a tunnel vision job .... only the good points highlighted

If I had known what I know now I would have still bought one, but I would have definitely gone for a petrol.
Had I also known about the PHEV’s being on the horizon, I would have waited for one of those, although of course, nobody knows what issues await those variants yet 🤔

@rencar I wouldn’t trust a JLR umbrella if I were you, it will probably fail soon and poke you in the eye!

All these DPF & Oil Dilution threads are really sad to read...I know what I’d say to JLR if they wanted me to sign a disclaimer! For some reason I’m sure the new unseen PHEV with its unrested 1.5 engine will bring a whole host of new problems to the fore if the DPF/Oil sagas are anything to go by!
