Oil dilution

On handover, I asked my Salesman what happens with new diesel cars if they get oil dilution services flagged up. He said they wouldn't cover the service at all.

I had initially given a lot of thought to buying the 180 diesel, but with my mileage being low (sub 10k per annum), I decided to go with the P250, despite the poorer mpg.

I think its a real shame that the DPF issue can spoil peoples ownership experience. I think a lot of the negative press about used Evoques may well be people buying them, who knew nothing of the 'go for a drive' need.

I've had new diesel cars from the PSA (Peugeot/Citroen) marque for more than 18 years, and never once had any issues with later DPF equipped models (despite low mileage). I know the PSA group also use an additive called Eolys which is injected into the system when the fuel cap is opened. More recent models also have the Ad-Blue as well, but I do wonder if they've refined it better than JLR.

I had a Land Rover diesel for 23 years - no problems. BUT it's the Euro 6 that this really applies to so your "18 years" doesn't count ;)

As has been discussed many times. It's the layout/architecture that increases the dilution problem. Where the DPF gets hot enough the additional fuel isn't needed, so no dilution. It's not a 'car make' thing as LR have layouts with the same engine and no problems.
My first Euro 6 car in 2014 was a C4 Grand Picasso and the PSA Groupe had Euro6 cars in their range from launch in 2013. They were early to the Euro 6 market and used Adblue back in 2013. I only did 7000 miles in the 3 years I owned it, and never had any issues (or heard of any on the forums) in those 6/7 years through until now. The PSA cars don't seem to be prone to DPF issues, so I wonder if they've perfected it more so than JLR.

I must admit that I’ve always had a second car which is petrol. I’ve previously always used that car for any short trips when I’ve had a diesel as my main car.

Now at least having the P250 as my main car, I don’t have to worry.

Oh no not umbrella's again - I didn't get one either, but bought my own.
