I think my Evoque is broken, but not damaged. Sort off.
I've been religiously monitoring my exhaust temps to figure out when regens are happening so I can keep the engine running until it is finished to minimise oil dilution.
I am now concerned as I've had 3 regens in space of 375km, same tank of fuel. One freeway and 2 city driving regens. Engine has only got 25k km on the clock. Oddly the last one happened with less than 1/4 tank fuel, which I thought it wouldn't do by some opinions from info on internet. The regen process is about 20-25 minutes each time.
So, a regen roughly every 100km sounds a bit too often in my books.
Wonder what would happen if I drill a few holes in the DPF for more free flow gas to exhaust? Besides screwing up the pressure diffirentials that triggers DPF, what can possibly go wrong?:whistle::devilish:

Someone I know ( ;) ) had the DPF "deleted" from another of his cars after much trouble with regens. The difference was amazing. More power, much better acceleration, better fuel economy, but best of all no DPF worries ever again.
Don't tell Greta Thunberg.

Hmmmm! Did your “friend” have any problems when doing it? Take it needs coded out? Did they keep the housing and smash it out or get a replacement pipe as it’s an MOT fail now I believe!?

It was coded out, along with a mild remap. The filter box was cut open, gutted and rewelded. It is not possible to see it's been done without taking it off again..
I reckon not having to fabricate, transport and fit a brand new DPF and dispose of the old one, along with the better MPG and no over-fuelling for regens easily offsets any other damage to the environment. :sneaky:

I have no time for Greta and her holier than thou tantrums, but I concede to THE (not her) climate issue. I'm not going to appologise for not having empathy for her self entitled, guitly strewing little temper tantrums.
By deleting my DPF I will save on onngoing cost for DPF issues, fuel and oil maintenance. Because those frequently discarded diluted oil is adding to climate issues. The savings then will allow me to invest in solar. So, the way I see it, I am being much kinder to the great climate issue on other fronts. Yes Greta, put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Indeed. I forgot to add that to my list of benefits - no more oil dilution and having to change oil every few thousand miles. Also thereby increasing the longevity of the engine so not having to scrap it early and build another car.
Actually the more I think about it the more convinced I am that DPF's are a well-meant but deluded idea (by the EU).

Why can't JLR put a message on the dashboard to say that the DPF has started its regen process? Then we could keep driving until its finished. It seems to me that most of the problems are caused by incomplete regens.
And while we're at it, why don't manufacturers allow all their cameras to record? My 2019 HSE has front and two rear cameras that would be great evidence when Jonnie Scrotum in his Seat Knobstar SE smashes into the rear.........again.
Perhaps this is a different thread?

🤣 your friend gutted the DPF.

Since getting mine, I've done 300miles and gone on about 10 regeneration runs bit they are not lasting above 40mph for 20 minutes straight. So it's like 15 minutes and then break for and hour then another 15 minutes. This is every week.

There are 2 types of regen.
Passive regen is when you go on motorway at speed >40mp/h and say 30 minutes. It just burns off soot by itself.
Active regen, kicks in when sensor says DPF getting full and then pumps extra fuel in exhaust to raise temp to burn off the soot. This can happen at any speed and anywhere between 5-20 minutes after the start of your journey and once started, lasts full 20-25 minutes. If you switch off in between, it will try and resume again within 5-20 minutes of next trip.

Thanks very much for the reply

Assistance is sorting the car now, he’s taking it for a run to force a regeneration. He measured the oil and mentioned the number 8 or 9 so said he would recommend getting it booked in for a oil change so I will ask if this can be done as a good will gesture.

thanks again
Hi,

Old thread I know but wondered if Assist managed force a regen or did it need dealer visit
Mine's back in (again) dealers for balance shaft problem but day before taking it in the red DPF light came on.
Hoping they can clear that, just on warranty, actual day of year 3! (16k) so like to know that could be fixed as seems they may argue the DPF bit under warrantly. would like ot know what the balance shafts really do & if could be cause of poor running that in turn may block the DPF.
Don't do many long runs but certainly enough 15-30k from time to time.

@Bignose2 I think I've already mentioned it... But it helps to put your Evoque year and spec in your profile so people can easily see what you have.
Hi,
Yes sorry, it is a lease & don't have the log book so could not find the fine details of the model,
Found it on some original paper work, have updated profile but here it is for ref.
