In true fashion the day after my warranty ran out not only does my engine management light come on the car refuses to go into EV .
It had a service and MOT last week and it was meant to be updated so the EV issue I put down to being cold and needed to run on ICE after being updated so I wasn't concerned .
My little orange light on the hand I've never seen in this car in the other first one I had it was a standard feature but not in this one .
I happen to be next to the garage that is closing Dec so thought I'd pop in on the off the chance and yep HVC heater is broken and I need a new one :( not quite what I was expecting at 9000 miles .
Engine management light on the other hand is because it has glitched with my charger that I have used for 3 years with no problems and apparently will clear itself in 3-4 cycles of turning the car on which I have already done and it's still there so not convinced on that one .. anyone heard of that one?
But moral of story is NEVER have a landrover with some form of warranty ( I have bought extended warranty from LR ) .. this car for the 3 years has been trouble free well ok apart from the updates that it refuses to do but that's it .. don't trust it always have back up or a good bank balance ;)

Sorry to hear you’re having problems, let’s hope you can get it all sorted with as little a dent in your bank balance as possible (no dent at all would be nice) 🤞🏻

Ah, so no dent at all - perfect.
I feel almost scared to write this in case in invokes the inevitable Sod’s Law, I didn’t take the extended warranty, mainly as I lost the argument with SWMBO regarding the rather expensive cost involved.
So far so good, let’s just hope it stays that way until I swap. 🤞🏻

I've always said I'd never run a Land/Range Rover without a warranty, brilliant when they're going but when you start getting gremlins it's sleepless nights, takes a brave person to run one without a warranty, I doff my cap to you

Full extended warranty is just over £1000 which sounds a lot, and it is a lot but...

Think of it as 20 quid a week? The price of three pints of premium lager or glasses of wine for total peace of mind including full Land Rover Assist and European cover?
Not so expensive after all...

Mine was quoted as £1380 for full cover or £115 a month. equates to £26.54 a week for peace of mind.

Thanks guys.

I bought my car second-hand with a extended Land Rover warranty. I was just wondering if, like subscriptions, there is on-line information relating to the warranty period.

When my warranty expires I will have to decide wether to renew or not, it is a lot of money but when you factor in Land Rover assist, expertise, coutersy / hire car etc then it starts to look like a good deal. And that is before putting a price on piece of mind.

Another question, I was told (I think wrongly) that to keep the warranty valid, servicing/repairs has to be carried out by a Land Rover dealer. I am not sure if that can be true, I suspect to maintain the warranty the garage performing the work needs to be able to update the service record. Does anyone have experience of this?

One thing to remember is that when you get your online quotation for the extended warranty you will see a choice of two with a marginally cheaper one called "Select".

DON'T be tempted to save a couple of quid as the "Select" warranty only covers some components and has a limit of a £3000 claim. I can tell you from experience that it doesn't cover electric tailgate struts amongst other things.

It must be noted too that surprisingly, the warranty can be paid for in monthly installments with NO interest charges which may swing it for some.

I didn't get a choice of two .. I even phoned JLR to make sure I was getting the top one to make I was covered for everything to be told that there was only one option and yes I covered .. well lets hope he was right  only choice was with or without our LR assist ,,,

The cheaper warranty is for cars age 4 years or older & not recommended by my dealer.

Not really, both warranties are available for cars once the original manufacturer's 3 year warranty has expired, the only stipulation is the car must be less than 10 years old and have less that 100,000 miles on the clock. There's no 4 year rule.

So you have a choice of "Extended" or "Select" warranty, but your dealer is correct not to recommend the "Select" warranty as from memory it's only about 50 quid cheaper for a fraction of the cover of the "Extended".

That’s quite right Squirrelly, I was quoted both. The Select was £1044 or £87 a month, so for the difference it was not worth considering.

There's definitely 2, I have the booklet somewhere that they sent ahead of the existing one running out offering 2 levels of cover, I remember it the cheaper one being called select and a few less things covered but we chose the good night's sleep max cover

I actually said that to the guy I talked to .. But I wasn't offered the select one he wouldn't let me have that one it was never an option. I don't know why Select wasn't I wouldn't have chosen it anyway to be fair .. only thing I added on to it was LR assist ... which came to £1104 well worth it considering the pickle I'm in now !
looking at the booklet there are two

This was only in the summer as well but I'm nearly certain that JLR tailor a price individually

Our car is just coming up to 3 years old, so for the first time ever, I'm going to buy an extended warranty.
I'm very handy with a spanner so I normally do most maintenance myself, but with the car having a high voltage electric drivetrain :
a) I don't wish to kill myself and
b) it is no doubt unbelievably expensive if it goes wrong.

The JLR 4th year warranty for our car is a choice of
Land Rover Range Rover Extended Warranty (£924.00) or Land Rover Range Rover Extended Warranty with Land Rover Assistance (£1104.00)
i.e. it is the same warranty with or without breakdown cover.

To clarify, I called the helpline and apparently the JLR warranties mentioned in the above posts of "Extended Warranty" and "Select Extended Warranty" are only available for the 5th year onwards.

Went with a Warrantywise 'Platimum Plus' three-year deal for ours this time last year (when it was three years old).

This covers main dealer labour rates (up to £200/hr) and has a single claim limit of £10,000, with an overall limit of £35,000 (i.e. the vehicle value). It exceeded the JLR warranty coverage on offer at the time at every level and was miles cheaper.

It covers the cost of a hire car and onward travel.

Paid £1,800 for three years cover after some haggling via the dealer who we brought the car from, (£50/month).

So, my time has come after nearly a year of ownership. Car was just in manufacturers warranty when bought and had used approved 12 months, expiring mid march. Bought a long term service plan upon purchase which has been paid monthly, and the plan has always been to extend warranty. Car has had a few issues in the year weve owned it and booked in for its MOT at LR in a few weeks time and a few relatively minor issues have been asked to be looked at whilst still under warranty.

So, quotes…. bit more than I was expecting….

So, from reading previous replies seems extended warranty is only way forward. Take it no one has had any joy ringing and negotiating?

LR assistance at £180 extra? Does this get me extra benefits over standard AA? Last time the car was back LR I’m sure they said if covered by LR assistance you got priority on being looked at and maybe hire car availability ( but I might just have imagined it!). So, LR assistance and all in at £1272? Steep but wouldn’t fancy owning it without!

I wouldn’t want to own a car as complicated as the P300e without the best warranty available and like the reassurance that all I have to do is press the button above the rear view mirror to call for assistance. £1272 is quite a bit more than the 12 x £76 I’m paying this year (year 4) but I’ll be paying whatever it costs for year 5 starting in May.

H you’re lucky, mine was £1384. Depends on the car, model, extras fitted, miles PA, age etc

I think LR Assist is worth it's weight, if your car needs recovering they'll arrange it regardless whether the dealer has room or not as well as a courtesy car, ok I know the chances of the dealer having a car available are slim to none so in that case Assist will get you an equivalent car or better from their own pool OR hire you one, yes it's just the AA in silver vans but I don't think yellow AA would go as far as silver AA does, they bent over backwards to find us a car when we had the mysterious battery drain, they arranged and paid for a taxi to get us home from the dealership an hour away and were going to deliver one to home but found a spare car at a dealership nearer to home ironically so the taxi diverted, Assist arranged everything and when I arrived the advisor knew all about it and had the car ready

I often thought how can LR Assist get it so right yet JLR get it so wrong, I now know its because they aren't the same company

LR warranty without LR Assist is like fish and chips without salt and vinegar

#37 ·
When needed them once they were very good, even the dealer got me an upgraded car from another dealership delivered.

Seems expensive to me. My car is 9 years old and while I can't remember the finer details off the top of my head, the warranty that came with it seems to be as comprehensive as the top LR warranty and I think includes a hire car, and was under £1000. I dread to think how much the LR warranty would cost by year 9.

#41 ·
Depends on the warranty. On mine I think I can use any garage of my choice but pay an excess of something like £150, or use the garage they choose. Can't remember the name of the firm but apparently it's the same that Ford dealers use for their approved used warranties.
