Hi all,

Help is needed. I was driving this morning and all of a sudden the gearbox would not select a gear. The clutch went down and still does but i cant select a gear.
I managed it get it home by forcing it into 3rd and doing a lot of coasting.

It's now sitting on the drive and it starts, clutch goes in and feels ok i think. But cannot select a gear, if i push the stick i get a grinding noise but wont select. But also when the car is idling, now it feels like the whole car is shaking. Its a diesel so it has a rumble anyway but now it feels like its shaking to death. Called around a few garages but no one can get me in or just wont look at it. Don't know if its clutch, gearbox or a hydraulic problem.

Only had the car 3 months and so frustrated now.

Cheers for any help.
Darren

if you've brought from a dealer I would contact them as you should have a warranty I hope in place....

Update: Thanks for the reply's. So i contacted a lot of local garages and no one wanted to know saying it sounded like a massive job. But managed to get a quote from one, and their saying its possibly the gear box from the sound of it. The guy was great and went through everything while i was on the phone.

But now its going to cost around 3k for looking at/ fixing the gear box, fly wheel and clutch. But no where has them in stock and their on back order from Jaguar LR.

So i contacted the finance company and the garage i got it from and i am in the middle of fighting to get them to pay for it. What are my statuary 6 months rights, as i thought it was 3 months.

Hi,
Look up consumer rights act 2015 on citizens advice.
If it develops a major fault you can reject it for a full refund within 1 month. Within 6 months you must give the seller one chance to fix it, if they don’t then you can reject it for a full refund.
It is nothing to do with warranties, finance or anything and garages know this but try and hide their liability behind warranties and agreeing partial payments with you. The liability is theirs and theirs alone.
Have a read there are also template letters to use either on there or on martins money saving advice. Everything must be in writing, the garage should have said very sorry we will fix it but they are car salesmen so won’t.😂 they are professional snakes at avoiding paying.
You will win this one with major faults and the law is on your side.
Good luck.
