Hi all, has anyone used an independent i.e. Halfords.National.AA etc to replace the battery or is it necessary to go back to jag, land rover or various outlets that offer the battery type? I'm just concerned about the computer settings being affected. Any replies welcome.

Well as a certain so one keeps reminding me , I’d just thought I’d point out how easy it is to go off topic... or post useful information on a thread that’s not relevant as I’m often reminded....not that it bothers me or I pay attention just pointing out the fact it’s easily done.....anyway back to battery charging someone might be kind enough to put a link up to where to by the best one from , I case I need one....I will just remember it’s in this thread 😍😍😍

I see you bumped another thread - but I'm likely to go for this CTEK.
£73 on Amazon:
CTEK MXS 5.0 Fully Automatic Battery Charger (Charges, Maintains and Reconditions Car and Motorcycle Batteries) 12V, 5 Amp - UK Plug: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike
I'll see what messages I get when I use the car this week before deciding...

EDIT:
I think you'll find I only mention getting back on topic when occasionally people start going way off topic most likely not related to the thread or even Range Rover Evoques.

CTEK MXS 5.0 is what I have Hmmm, stays connected to the Jag (now SORN'd :( ) but I have had to use on the Evoque once since lockdown started as it cranked quite sloooowly, but no messages!.

If you get it. make sure the mode is AGM and CAR.

Is the BMS related to having an AGM battery? Which I assume is related to start/stop function, Mine has AGM with start/stop as an early Manual, although it's also black.

It’s not just JLR.
When I got my Peugeot RCZ they charged £50 for diagnostic, which was knocked off the repair cost if you went ahead and got them to do the work.
Now they charge £75 which is not refundable, whatever you do. And that’s the discounted Price for me because I have a service contract with them, or because I have a Peugeot Platinum warranty, I can’t remember which 🥴 (I think the full price is @ £125).
Despite having all the above, every time it’s been in for a service, they always either suggest, or say it ’needs’ something that isn’t covered by either the service contract or the warranty. Funny that 🤔😐

I still don’t understand the battery thing it’s way over my head but have read and seen many have replaced there own batteries
Bit like Marks and Sparks ... but you don’t mind paying extra as it is a better quality of food ,,, JLR Quality seems to be a thing of the past ... look great , drive well, but run of the mill parts nothing special compared to other quality parts costing half what they charge.... then there’s the labour😱😱😱😱 must be the expensive overalls there techs use ... and the super plus extra power hi tech diagnostics machines that cost more to run than every other 😂😂😂😂

Shortly after we got ours from BSM I was in at their service desk getting booked in for something, adviser was dealing with someone so I waited, when I was at his desk the previous chap came back and politely interupted us and asked 'while you've got the car in for the service and up in the air can I ask you to rotate the wheels, front to back, back to front?', the adviser said yes but there would be a charge for that, chap was like 😧 'why, you've got to take the wheels off so just swap them around', adviser replied sorry sir we don't take the wheels off till the third service which is why we charge!

They were going to charge 0.2 hours labour which he said was £18, chap told em to stuff it and he'd do it himself.

So the dealer is quite happy to sell you a car, ply you with all the coffee you can drink, quite happy to drop you off in town or pick you up, anything just to sell another unit but once they have your money then you just become a nobody, just another sale, another tick on the sales managers dry wipe board

I’ve been getting the 3 min battery warning for some time now - looking at my battery I think it’s probably the original which is a starter type ( my car hasn’t got stop/start feature), so is almost certainly ready for replacement at 7 yrs old.
My question is, does it have BMS - is there anything physically I can see on the car to confirm it does? Would the 3 min warning coming up mean the car has this system fitted?
Thanks for any help given.

While we are discussing this, yes modern cars require coding to inform them that they have a new battery.
It allows the modules to learn the static amperage and running draw so the alternator can accommodate how much to charge.

Done battery change on my beamer and had to code it. Without coding it should work however battery life may get compromised. Or at least that is what I learnt.

I can confirm that there is an option to reset battery in dealer level software.

It allows you to reset the battery settings for main battery and for secondary small battery.

Any independent with Autologic (handheld device) should be able to reset it for you and should not charge you more than 15 minutes of labour.

Should do, however, the real task is to get a decent Mangoose / Magnoose clone as most will give us loads of errors on connecting to the car. Working on it.

This thread has me concerned. I changed my battery upon purchase when the dash indicated low battery. The dealerships wanted £300 for a genuine replacement. My local auto factors supplied a Yuasa AGM battery for £120 and I changed it myself. That was four months ago, no plug ins, no window resets, no problems. Am I missing something?

Rob, the difference in battery life is minimal.
I have not had Evoque long enough to comment but here is my experience with beamers:

Car 1: Battery changed and battery change reset done with dealer level software. 4 years and still no issues.

Car 2: Battery changed and felt lazy and didn't code the battery. 2 years later, I am getting low battery during the wintertime.

Disclaimer: Maybe a confounding factor but car 2 has dashcam fitted which is mostly on and any tiny movement will trigger the recording. Might be it's down to that and not coding,

A second battery? First the ghost of christmas past, now the ghost of christmas future. Do I have a second battery?
Why dont we all start a crowd funding page to buy the JLR brandings and make a world renowned quality vehicle where you turn the key (or press a button) and it just works, be it in the Atacama desert or Waitrose car park. How will the dealerships make money I hear you cry. How about £20 per lash at the pillory . Ill pay.
