Hi guys - Didn’t anticipate my 2nd post would be to ask for advice.
I picked up my 69 plate D150 (32600k on the clock) from Land Rover yesterday. I drove it home (86 miles), drove like a dream in comparison to my BMW 3 Series. Never felt a diesel drive like it was gliding! The only thing I noticed yesterday was a faint noise that sounded as though it was coming from the dash area when I accelerated, but it stopped when I placed my hand on the dash so likely unrelated to todays issue.
We live in the Scottish Borders and wanted to take the car out for a spin, left for Edinburgh around 11.30am, drove to Hermiston Gate (24 miles away), and all was fine. When we reached Mayberry Road (2.3 ,lies from Hermiston Gate), a solid amber engine management light came on. The motor didn’t feel like it went into limp mode, but that smooth gliding drive experience was gone. Fortunately we were able to pull in, and called the AA roadside recovery team as when we pressed our SOS button, the signal from the caller was shocking and we had no idea what she was saying.
I have attached a copy of the diagnostic sheet, the AA mechanic said it’s likely needing a new DPF because of the P049B error code. I’ve had a wee look online at the two error codes. I understand that P2002 can happen due to short distance driving, but as you can see from the miles I’ve covered, that can’t be the cause here.
I bought the car from Pentland Land Rover directly, so I have 30 days to fully return the car if a significant fault is found. But the car comes with a 12 month warranty, so if the DFP needs replaced, it’ll cost nothing. I know the common sense thing would be to return and get a different car, but I don’t want to overreact. Absolutely gutted.
I know you can’t make this decision for me, but what would you guys do?
Cheers
