I have an annoying ‘clunk/shudder’ when reversing off my drive. Basically start the car, select reverse, back off the drive, then select drive to pull away. The clunk happens when selecting ‘drive’, but also the car feels ‘notchy’ when decelerating and coming down through the gears (Automatic box) like a jolt in the back as if it’s skipped a gear.

It’s a 2012 Si4 Coupe, FSH and recently serviced late last year.

Any ideas please?

@welder1027 I know someone that recently had similar problems on a 2012 RRE, she got it fixed by having the software updated. As far as I can tell, the garage were saying s/w looks after the 'soft shift' function of the gearbox. Perhaps this s/w can get corrupted causing the problem, so needs replacing/updating to correct things?

You could also try the 'gearbox reset' following the instructions in this thread but I'm not sure if it will have the same effect:

As Hmm says could be software if it has not been updated for a while. Manufacturers often update their software parameters to account for cars wear patterns as they age.
Could be mechanical as well, loads of options there.
it is into its 9th year now, has the gearbox fluid been changed yet. It’s not on the service schedule but the Asin TF81SC box in these does respond well to clean fluid as they get older.
What mileage have you done?

Thanks for that and will look into it. Mileage is just over 63,000

Not being very mechanically savvy, i’m assuming to update the software it would need to go to the dealers?

Dealers or an independent who has the subscription to the JLR system. that was who did mine.

Lots of people here swear by the DIY gearbox reset so perhaps give that a go first? (It's not something I've tired)
I didn't thing the instructions would be for the earlier 6 speed, but I was firmly put in my place when I've mentioned it previously - so you might be lucky.

The RRE I was referring to got fixed by a decent LR specialist, not a main dealer.

OK Guys, just tried the gearbox reset and it is a hell of a lot better, still not as smooth as i’d like on deceleration but the upshifts are a lot smoother for sure.

Like a lot of software it some times needs to be done more than once so try the reset again, wait a few minutes and do it again, then test.
