Recently purchased a late 13 Evoque auto and notice that there is a whine while accelerating (not turbo whistle). Anyone else experience this noise or is it "Normal"? Its much more noticeable with the windows down

Hi PiloTT
Do you have a warranty?? If so I would get it back to them to check ASAP. Good luck.

Hi Pilott,
Late to the group, did you have any joy in this diagnosis?
Bought a 61 plate 6 months ago,
Same symptoms, whining when accelerating, auto box, through 1-2 gear very noticable then disappears,
Had it back to garage, jlr dealer, they have replaced ptu, drive shaft, haldex unit and pump, all the rear drive, and no difference.
Just wondering if you found out the trouble.
Thanks
Ooly

Having the exact same issue, it’s been at the garage a few days, they said it might be the gearbox so will be looking into it, did you find the cause of the noise?

Thanks

Yep, had it back in to local jlr branch, they did some, what they called guided diagnostics, came to the conclusion it needed a new gearbox, it has now been replaced, all seems good now.
Can't thank hatfields, pickering enough, they did everything in there power to sort this for me as they ensured me when I bought the car from them it was a 100%perfect car, they don't usually sell cars of this age second hand, it was only becouse they sold the car origanaly, 1 owner, low milage, full service history, etc, car is in showroom condition for age. Don't suppose they will sell a 61 ever again, there bill for the warranty work must be 6--7k if I had to have paid up!!!! Good luck with yours, ask about the guided diagnostics!?? It was either through jlr or gearbox manufacturers!!!

Mine is a 61 plate as well, low millage bought about 10 months ago, had to restore the rear diff, turbo intercooler pipe burst on the 1st day, endless electrical gremlins and had a gearbox flush and oil replace and a few months ago, seems like the gearbox is the cause of the issue as well, the car is at a transmission specialist but they are limited to what they can do at the moment (corona virus) anyway they think it’s the gearbox and said to me best case scenario it’s £900 and worst case £2200 for the repair. Awaiting a response from them this week! Hearing about yours and it looks like it won’t be good news.
Wish I’ve gone for the extended warranty now ?

Mmm hiensight is a great thing!!! Been there quite a lot!! Yeah we where lucky we got it from a jlr dealer I suppose, wife has been after a RR evoque since they first came out, not used to the cost of an older car, been lucky enough to have had a few brand new ones only kept them for 3 years, had a juke nismo rs last that was a cracking car.
Hope u get yours sorted soon and it ends on the cheaper side for the repair, I couldn't tell you what was wrong with it, they just replaced the whole thing
