I think slaine mentions how to do this in this thread. I also have a manual but I`ve never tried to change the standard launcher. Nothing is gonna make this piece of junk work any better than just having the basic stuff operate. You have to jump through hoops to get things working. Not good while you`re driving. I gave up getting most of the functions working. It`s just an expensive screen with basic functionality now.

Thanks ill go back and see if i can see what Slaine said...... certainly would like to have a go with his launcher though

your right, the software on them is shocking. Becomes a little more usable with a sim inserted or connected to a mobile WIFI. but could be 1000% better if they thought about what it could or would be doing...

Does anyone else have a problem where the date/time and some settings reset every time the car is started or the unit is rebooted? It's really frustrating. Not sure what I can do to resolve it?

Hi guys, sorry to add onto an old thread but trying to get a bit of advice.
I have an Android head unit in my 2015 evoque and the standard launcher (software) is utter pants and I want to change it to something else… but my question is if I do this will I loose access to the standard evoque software that I can get to?
With me having a manual it’s the only way I can get my reverse camera to work…. So I don’t want to change the launcher and then loose that functionality. Any help of advice would be welcome.
did you ever get the reversing camera working on manual? Having the same issue here as well

@DalesWales did you ever get it working via the reverse light line?

I was considering changing the standard launcher as well but need access to the old units rear view.

I currently leave mine connected to oem Bluetooth to maintain steering wheel controls BUT on CarPlay turn signal audio comes out of android 😅..

Just to add to this,

Solution to reverse activated in manual!

The pink wire (360 det) from the stereo, wire this up to the reverse lights from the fuse box in the passenger glovebox.

I’ve still yet to do this but have tested by touching the pink cable with an extension to the cigarette lighter centre (barbaric I know) and this triggers the oem display to show, removing this returns to where ever you were.

So when reverse is engaged the reverse lights will switch on triggering this cable to show the oem display for the reverse camera. Make sure you have your settings still on original oem camera.

Massive thanks to those who have posted, purchased one of these units and about to install. Lots of great information which should help. I’m only after CarPlay and Google Maps. Will follow advice of other ref the phone connected to factory system. Also gone with a SIM card straight into the unit, hoping that will help. GPS splitter cable and I’ll attempt a 3G/4G splitter too. only missing the Mic from my kit, just awaiting uk reseller the send this before I start.

Anyone able to assist with powering the unit upon unlocking the vehicle?

also only getting sound from right hand speakers. OEM Radio, AUX & USB work fine.

Hello guys, my name is Steve and I also just purchased my first Evoque. It is a 2016 2.0 Diesel with automatic trans and the Harmann Infotainment System. I also would like to install the 10.25 Android System. Does anyone have a recommendation where to buy in China so you get the latest hardware version? I was trying to contact Robin from Merryways directly but so far no success. Thanks a lot to Slaine and all the other posters here for all that good information. At least now I know what to expect from the china system and that it’s not perfect especially SW wise. Greetings and have a good day guys.

My advice is don't. Wherever you buy your unit from, it's pot luck. The only way to know the actual spec is to install 'Fake Device Test' on it, and more times than not, you'll be disappointed with what you find out.

I sold the Evoque and bought a BMW 520d Tourer, and have done the same to that too. But this time, lessons learned and all that, I bought from a reputable BMW android head unit dealer in the UK. Fortunately, I received a good unit, where the advertised spec matched the actual spec.

TL;DR ... buy from the UK. You may still get a dud, but this way you have proper support and can always return it. Unlike when I bought mine from China for my Evoque ... I had zero support, no way to return it ... despite overcoming many issues on my own, I ended up with a glorified 10.25" for Google Maps with very little OEM integration.

Good luck.

Hi Slaine thx again for your incredible support. If you say it like that I really think I just buy the CarPlay box and leave it at that. I was really fascinated by having the big screen (as most of us I guess) but at the end nobody really seems to be happy :-(

I think @Y500 TJB is pretty happy with the system he got in the UK. Read on from here and follow the link in the thread to his install:

As I understand it, It uses the motherboard of the original system mounted internally as a daughter-board so you get Android as the main system integrated with the original for various functions.

That's the same as my one on the Evoque, Nick. Not sure if it's the same on all. I had to open it up and mount the board and ribbon cable prior to install. 100% agree with purchasing from the UK ... this way you have support and a return option if needed.

Hi i have changed my mobile provider from Tesco to ID mobile
Unlimited texts unlimited minute and 60 GB of data all for only £8 per month on a 12 month contract
Have been on it for 3 months now and its brilliant kept my same number
As I get into the car it pings and connects automatically to the system which gives me Google and Nav and all the android apps like you tube / spotify etc. Also very clear dash cam images
Just press the mic button on screen and say " Google take me to Heathrow airport or wherever "and it plots the route and off we go
No faffing around with putting street names or postcodes in.
It also retains the routes if you ever need them again
Up to now the system has been brilliant so very pleased with it to be honest.

Hey guys, I am clueless. I bought one unit from ATD (Uk dealer). Through videos on net I found my way to install old circuit boards into new one. Cabling all correct, harness all installed.

Problem : in RR menu it shows , no signal', no matter which config I choose in Factory settings.

Anyone knows a solution ?

Which excact system did you buy and where did you buy it ? How much was the price ?

Hi I paid about £800 all fitted and it also included the touchscreen AC /heated seats/unit
Really updates the car so I was well pleased

Hi, when I’m in aux mode with the android system I hear a noise like a bad aux connection in the sound system. As I turn up the volume the noise gets louder. How I can fix it?
