Word is that Land Rover is considering a brawnier version of the company's new Evoque. Autocar reports that engineers have already snugged a 300 horsepower version of the Ford Ecoboost 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine into the engine bay. David Mitchell, program director for the vehicle, has already driven the high-performance mule and says that the chassis can take the extra power.

Still, the project hasn't been given the green light. According to them, the biggest hangup is that Land Rover doesn't really have the marketing structure in place for a performance variation.

Currently, the company's sportier models are branded with the Supercharged moniker, but that's something that clearly wouldn't work on a turbocharged four-cylinder model.

Autocar quotes Mitchell as saying that Land Rover would have to look into alternative badging or even a sub-brand for the more athletic Evoque. Currently, the most powerful Evoque available comes with a considerably more modest 237 horsepower.

What do you think they should call it?

They already have the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport, so you'd think that calling it the Evoque Sport would be a no-brainer. (Although maybe they're concerned that since the RR Sport is 'below' the RR in the lineup, people might think an Evoque Sport is a lower model than the regular Evoque despite being pitched higher.)

So, Tootsie, spill the beans, is this officially for the other half, or officially because you've had loads of mods done already - if so what have you had done, how much did they cost and how good are they?!

Well it all depends on what the hot version costs. Perfectly reasonable to to have two petrol engined versions, spaced, say, £10k apart.

I have ordered a 300bhp Evoque (unofficial list) when collecting my new Si4 from the dealer yesterday. When & if this is built & delivered, then the Si4 will be sold, hopefully retaining a strong residual value.<div id="myWatcherDiv" style="display:none;">
Will it be called the Evoque Sport?

A man can dream, can't he?

And, yes, my money would be on "Evoque Sport", dynamic body with plus seats as standard and all the bits. £55k, say. Thing is, what would the colour of the Evoque badge be? They should have reserved red for it, me thinks.

Good point Mark.

Cue lots of embarrassed faces at JLR.

Ford will supply a highly tuned version, @ 300bhp, of the existing Si4(237bhp)/Focus ST(250bhp) 2.0 litre turbocharged engine, it is alleged. Should it be called Epoke (in red)?<div id="myWatcherDiv" style="display:none;">
