Hi all, after some advice!

My wife’s 2013 Evoque 2.2 auto has behaved impeccably for just over a year however, on the way back from Wales yesterday (a 4.5hr trip) when the car was clearly “hot” (sat in a jam for 45mins) every time my wife released the foot brake, whilst in “D” it made a harsh jerk. This was solved by moving to neutral then back to D again. No fault codes displayed. Think the car is due a transmission fluid service as well.

Has anyone else had this issue? Any ideas on what the fix is? Fluid change? Software update?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi - Not something I've experienced. Have things returned to normal after things have cooled down?
You can reset the gearbox 'learned' behaviour (see forum) but if it's only when hot then sounds like a different problem.
Let us know how you get on...

Things are fine when just pootling about. By the time we got back home and out the traffic jams it was behaving itself again (and has done today on a 15mile each way trip).
I’ll get the box serviced however I did see this technical service bulletin (attached screenshot) so will speak to the dealer on Monday. It’s from LR North America...

I haven’t had anything done to it as yet - since it’s been back on relatively short commuting trips it’s been as good as gold. I still plan on giving it a full dif and box oil change in the next month though and see how it is from there.

Of course!

just out of interest, what oil did you use for the box and diff box? My mechanic (a good friend) usually gets me to order everything and I just send the stuff all together!
Did the car feel any different after the change?

Just a quick update on this...

Just got the car back from my trusted mechanic I use over an hour away and it’s had;
Auto box fluid change
Rear diff fluid change
Haldex service

to try and cure this dreaded clunk when coming off the foot brake.

car drove super smooth all the way back, literally 60ft from home, coming off the foot brake from a standstill “clunk” as the gear engages.

Annoyed isn’t the word!

ringing Land Rover on Monday about this software module (as per previous in this thread).

grrrrr!

That’s what’s odd, mines only after a minimum of one hour. Usually around the 1.25/1.5hrs of driving then “clunk” really jerks when you lift off the foot break! Well, I’ll see what the local stealer can sort for me and let you know!

Sorry to hear that you guys are still having these issues.

@Bazz had similar clunks on startup. Might be worth of checking with him. His car has been to dealers multiple times and they have changed Haldex pump oil etc and reset the gearbox adaptive memory. He reported that it returns back.

If you have 6-speed auto then worth of reading this

PS: Gearbox firmware resolved it (post 49) or perhaps OP sold the car.

Had the TCM / gearbox software updated/reprogrammed today by a local specialist. He went on a test drive and said even selecting through P R D & S there shouldn’t be any jerking (always been a slight amount - I thought it was normal!) he also left it running for a bit to get hot and went for a drive to see if he could get it to “jerk” when coming off the foot brake - which it did.
Hes applied a software update to that and some other things by the looks of it and all jerk has disappeared! Took it for a drive today and went for about 45/50 mins each way and zero...nothing. Zilch. Big test will be Cornwall in a few weeks...3.5/4hr journey! Fingers crossed it’s sorted!

He did say it’s shifts very smoothly and asked if I’d had the transmission fluid changed (which I have!) so it must be better than it was and not just a placebo!

Good to hear.
Sadly, software upgrades are not covered in JLR used car warranty (unless it is being done with the replacement of hardware).
