Hello to you all,
Just wondering if any of you have had an issue with the TPMS 's. As while trying to top up the air in one tyre last week the thread snapped off and I was left holding my finger over the valve in sheer panic, not knowing what had happenend! Is this a common problem or is it just me.....

More importantly what did you do with the troublesome wheel and valve?

Luckily I was at my local petrol station and I had a full size spare wheel at home.... The valve on the other hand is proving to be a bit more tricky. I purchased a new TPMS as mine was not fixable according to my local LR dealer.... exchanged it with the damaged one and hoped that the car would "see it", but, of course it didn't. Today I took the car off to have the computer Have a chat with the troublesome thing but after the chat and the drive around for 15 mins my car still refuses to accept the new guy. My dealer tells me that, I or they, now need to break the wheels down and take the ID's of all the sensors so that they can manually load them..... It's becoming a very expensive tyre air pressure top up.

According to the factory service manual, if a TMPS wheel sensor is replaced there is no manual intervention required. I'm not saying your dealer is not telling you the truth, but it sure contradicts the factory manual.

From the factory service manual: "If the tire pressure sensors fitted to the running wheels (not the spare) are changed, the CJB* can learn the new sensor identifications automatically. The learn function requires no manual intervention by the driver."

From what I ascertained with my Winter wheels, the self learning on MY16.5 onwards doesn’t work although it certainly did on my MY13 (swap wheel, drive a bit then wait for 15 mins). I got JLR to admit the self learning doesn’t work as described (certainly on my car with the software level it is at) and they told the dealer exactly what the OP was told ... the sensors need to be programmed into the car.

I swapped out the old JLR (Continental make but JLR branded) sensors from my winter wheels to a set of programmable sensors and bought a reader/programmer - that route was cheaper than my dealer wanting to fit and code a set of JLR sensors, and then at each swap I needed the car recoding.

I just read my existing wheels with the scanner and then cloned the new sensors to those ID’s ... works perfectly!

If you still have the old sensor Mrsills ... I can get a programmable sensor and code it for you (they are about £40 or so), but I need the hex code off the old sensor and also the MY of your car. Alternatively you could send me the old sensor.

Trapdoor, Very interesting. Aren't you amazed, I am, at why JLR would take something so basic away in newer models?? Doesn't make much sense to meErmm.

I was told that it was a different manufacturers system in my car than was fitted in the MY13. My old one didn’t show pressures on the dash, just a warning if the Tyre lost pressure. This one shows pressures.

Before I decided to buy my own reader/programmer I spoke with a company that advertises cloned and programmed OEM replacement sensors and he said their programming guides say the Evoque (all MYs) are self learning but has had issues with Evoque, RRS and Disco Sport that wouldn’t learn new sensors, which is why I believed what JLR reported back through the dealer. He offered to read my wheels and clone a set but it was just cheaper to buy the kit as I would have had a drive to him about 2 hours away, pay for his sensors and drive home.

I’m just gobsmacked that the dealers don’t invest in the fairly cheap kit to at least read wheel sensors in-situ and have to take the tyres off to eyeball the code on the sensor. But when the gullible owner is paying, why make the process quicker and cheaper eh? Actually, perhaps they DO have readers, but try to make out they have to pull the sensors out of the wheel first. Mine you just rest it on the valve stem and it wakes the sensor up and reads the data, although you do have to tell the unit what make, model and MY the vehicle is otherwise it doesn’t read the sensor.

Only issue I had was finding somewhere locally to me to swap the old ones out with the new ones as it seems the mainline Tyre places aren’t interested (we don’t fit customer supplied parts mate). One of the smaller local independents did it for me, but the young lad initially fitted them wrong and a few days after I got the wheels Home they were all flat (fortunately they weren’t on the car at that point). He’d fitted the seal on the stem wrong on each wheel. The boss man had to retrain him!!

LR Tech does seem to do things differently ( I guess what I'm really try to say is compatibility).

I had terrible trouble getting my iPod(s), USB Music to connect or work on my early Evoques, then there was the In-Control introduction and limitations. It doesn't compute with me.

I've had cheapo Fiats and Alfas where the tech just worked, I regularly used voice control in my little Punto, gave up with the Evoque.

Back in November I bought a set of Alloys, complete with Winter tyres and TPMS fitted, replaced them on the Alfa, no problems at all. I double check every now and again that the pressures are recording and shows a progressive increase in pressure as the journey goes on and the tyres warm up.

I just don't get why you are having this trouble, I hope you get it sorted soon. Is there a local tyre specialist who could help?

Don’t get me going on voice control E-K ... mine doesn’t control the satnav like on the MY13 ... there is just no dialogue in the system for it (yet it’s all supposed to be integrated). And since one of the iOS updates, SIRI no longer works through the car.

I’ve been putting off going to the dealer (haven’t had to go in since I bought the car) but thinking it may be time to get them to put any updates on ... there are two outstanding campaigns for mine WRT oil dilution and service counter reset but since I haven’t had a issue, just not gone in.

Personally, I hate the whole visiting the dealer thing as certainly my closest dealer just doesn’t take any care with my pride and joy.

I agree with you re visiting a dealer but it's not unique to LR .

I ended up using a LR Authorised Service Centre (which didn't sell new cars) and their attention to detail was excellent.

I have some battery related issues on my Alfa, a 35 mile trip to the dealer gives me grief and I'd rather live with a faulty HRW than regularly travel to the dealer on a regular basis.

Not MJ Fews in Wotton by any chance was it? I have to say I’m thinking of taking mine there. Taunton LR will never get my business again and GS in Bristol is such a nightmare to get to from where I am.

I think it is SM, yes

I won't go into the detail, but car1 way back in 2013 got rejected, and pretty much each time I've been in there for work they have either been careless (oily finger marks on my light grey leather dash, door card and seats) or just incompetent and clumsy (scratched BOTH illuminated tread plates because some twat stood on them in his boots doing something) - that's just two of the issues, I won't go into the "failed first/second/third time to fix" issues or the "never have a loan car available" issues.

And I'll never forget my salesman's response to "tell me what Adaptive dynamics does" ... his answer was "well, it makes the dials go red"
