Hi all

My 64 plate SD4 pure tech is due a service shortly, it got 67,000 on the clock so I’m assuming I’ve been quoted for the 80,000 service interval. A few questions to fellow members, they quoted this as a major service could someone clarify as to what this includes? Also is the price they quoted excessive £609 inc vat, as the car is now out of warranty I’m seriously thinking of a local garage whom I’ve used before to carry this out. Can’t see it been anywhere near the £609 even using genuine OEM parts.

Your thoughts

Mines due a 5yr service I am on a service plan but looking at the jobs to do it is a joke for what they are doing. I would find a good local garage the same work and parts for half the price

Service rotate with the A & B principle.

An LR Dealer will charge top rate.

If you know of a good Independent then give them a go.

£600 does sound a lot. I would look out for a good independent Land Rover specialist.
The 4yr is a B service but still quite a basic service that JLR Stealers usually charge £500.
You should be able to get a better service at half that price if you can find a trustworthy independent, there must be a few in Norfolk.

Good Luck!
Kind Regards
David

I was happy to use MJ Fews as they looked after my 2002 Freelander very well. The joys of having such nice cars Thumbs Up

A big thanks guys for all the advice, I’ve looked at my service record on the Land Rover OSH website and see my vehicle was last serviced in April 2017 the week I took ownership it had its 4th year 64,000 miles carried out then. I’ve only put 5K on the clock since that date so does it warrant a service at all?

I generally only do 5K per annum, bearing this in mind what would fellow members do. Do I stick to the yearly 16000 miles intervals or service it when I reach the 80,000 on the odometer.

Assuming that your car is a 2.2 (rather than the later 2.0 which, in theory requires servicing every 2 years or 21k miles) I would have it serviced annually or at the very minimum have the oil and filter changed. If your car is covered by the 2 year LR Approved Used Warranty, the T&Cs might insist that it is serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's service schedule.

If you want to continue with LR dealer servicing then the best thing to do is to get quotes from all of your conveniently located dealers and then get your favourite one to price match the lowest quote. I would expect the best price to be around £450.

I'm not convinced that by staying with LR servicing you'll get much gain either from support in the event of a major failure after the warranty expires or a better selling price when you come to move it on. Therefore I would look and try and find a good local independent who is able to do any software updates and read, understand and clear fault codes as and when they appear.

Just wondered if the Ford 2.2 litre engine has a cam belt or chain. If belt it may be getting near time for a change. Son just been quoted £400 to renew the belt on his 1.8 ford focus diesel(i expect that will be from the bank of mum & dad)

Just grabbed one of these for my car £149. I have the service plan and Used Warranty on my car so bought mainly for interest although I have tried the brake service option and it works great (i know you can do this with a combination of things on the dash etc). I particularly like that many of the monitors on the system can be viewed as a waveform and any failures (if you have any) ie fault codes can be saved as a report onto a micro Sd card as a file so that you can print it out!

This is the latest model thats only been out for a few weeks. I bought it from this place, and actually went to pick it up and they were very very good, its a young chap that runs it and the customer service was outstanding!! ps I don't have any connection with this company they just seem very good and Im happy to recommend.

The new 2018 iCarsoft LR V2.0 is a hand-held diagnostic tool, offering comprehensive system coverage for both Land Rover and Jaguar. Full System Diagnostics including Engine, Auto Transmission, ABS, Airbag, EAS (Air Suspension) and so much more... In addition, includes Oil Service Reset (OLS), Electronic Parking Brake Reset (EPB), Steering Angle Reset (SAS), DPF Reset / Regens (DPF), Electronic Throttle Reset (ETCS) and Battery Coding / Reset (BMS) PLUS Updated Software Coverage for earlier vehicles (TD5 etc), Improved Live Data coverage, Print Option, OBD Battery Test and Engine (OBD) Coverage for other manufacturers.

I have an iCarsoft tool as well. It does all models and makes. Hardly used it on the evoque thank god.
I got it for my 2002 Freelander 1.8 petrol and cured a lot of problems.

Engine light on and QuickFit wanted £45 to test for code. I made a bet that if they tested and got the same code I did not have to pay. I won Cool.

I originally diagnosed it with a £12 usb tool and then confiremd with the iCarsoft tool.

Can any fellow members point me in the direction of what’s involved in service intervals. I’m looking to buy a service kit for a 5th year 80,000 service. Can’t seem to find what needs changing on yearly services?

Cheers

Nige

I’d lay good money that the JLR dealers do not do all that!
Remove road wheels to check brakes and components, they have never removed my wheels and didn’t even check the pressures either on my last service.
Lubricate door checks, I don’t know what a door check is, possibly the latch and hinge. They didn’t lube mine!

A good independent should do all that and more.
Kind Regards
David
