Not good but if the car is a 17 plate that should be a warranty job.

Regardless of that, it should still be covered under it's original 3yr warranty.
Was it from a dealer or an honest John's used car place?
why as is?   was there something obviously wrong with it or had it been thrashed? what mileage etc etc.

If somebody has been messing under the bonnet then of course LR will have nothing to do with it.
But if it just caught fire Im sure you would be knocking on LR front door first thing in the morning.
Something doesnt make sense.
As Maffy asks....did you buy the car with loom burnt out?
Even then, Im surprised you havent approached LR for a warranty claim.
As for the question, will a hse loom fit......
Especially after the loom has caught fire once, I certainly wouldnt put a part on that isnt the correct original part.....especially on a 17 plate?
And I would want to know how it caught fire before I fitted another loom as I guess thats a ballache of a job.

Is it a previous insurance right off due to the fire cat C or D
If it is I don't imagine LR will want anything to do with it

WE could guess all  night, need to have more of the gospel before helping to find an answer.
Insurance writ off, accident damage, flooded, accident-thrashed etc etc etc.
a 17 plate motor is at best only just one year old as is mine so in theory unless crazily damaged, firstly, why would you buy such a car and secondly need to know its full background.

No car was bought new 2700 miles in heater or loom goes up can’t say what started first as all in the heater box area LR says write off insurance comes out writes off we buy the car back strip it down evedence suggest fire started where heater joins the main cable just wondered if there was major differences on HSE to SE as looking there only appears to be small changes

So what you are saying is that the car was a fire write off, you bought it cheap, and now you are going to sort it.

Usually a loom where there are a choice of electrical gadgets that can be added, comes complete with the sockets, but without the gadgets. But as for RR/LR we cannot be sure of that with their looms, so you would be best asking the question to RR/LE technical department via email, with the serial number of your car and ask if HSE or SE loom is satisfactory, and at the same time get the right part number for that section of loom.

PS...Still not sure why RR/LR have not investigated or even asked for feedback why the fire started, as it would be in their own interest to see what caused it, so this is not repeated on other Evoques.

My thoughts on the process too, LR surely would have investigated- their tech dept would be the best place to start. When I watched mine being built at halewood I was told the looms were individual to the car, dependent on what spec and extra's had been ordered-apparently no longer cables hidden behind panelling to plug and play to allow customer to retro fit items.
just what I was told-this will be interesting to follow.

I was also told the looms were slightly different dependant on spec.
But with all due respect to every single forum member, we all have extensive knowledge, but I would say this is too much of a gamble to take advice from forum members.
I agree with colin4x4 - ask JLR.

There is one thing here though.......have you actually spoken to JLR about the incident?
Because lets say our engine caught fire on the drive for instance.......and we called insurance company.....and they came out to write it off......how would JLR ever know?
Hopefully they have been informed as its important they know as there could be a call back they need to know about.
Just like the call back we all had for the wiring loom under bonnet that could cause the car to set on fire....on MY15 models.
Could be related to that as well.....who knows?
Although on a 17 plate I would hope that was sorted....
Are JLR aware?

Call me stupid but at the very beginning when LR said it was a write off as far as they were concerned surely if it was still under warranty and it caught fire for no apparent reason then they should have replaced the car, why should you need to claim on your insurance for something that is/faulty

+1

Also, without knowing the reason for the fire I wouldn't have bought the car.

OK if the car was totally burnt out it would be hard to prove who or what caused it but when you have evidence of a partial electrical fire why is that not covered under the manufacturers warranty, it's not totally burnt out, they can see where it's originated from and should be able to tell it wasn't caused by the owner, more likely to be chaffing wires causing a short circuit, that's a manufacturing fault and could affect 100s if not thousands of evoques, I'm surprised the insurer has taken this on and not thrown it back to LR

Agree with above advice, the loom will be specific to the model and options of the car, Much (98%) will be common, but you will need the correct variant of loom. You'll likely have to buy this through JLR anyway as it's not going to be a normal spares part, and any incorrect variant (that 2% difference) of loom could cause you endless hours of diagnosis when something does not work as expected, so JLR should recommend the loom for the VIN Number at a suitable JLR price of course!

There's definitely something dodgy going on here.

If I owned a ONE year old car that burst into flames due to a wiring fault, there's no way I'm claiming off my insurance! The first port of call would be the dealership that sold it to me.

This looks more like an insurance right-off (from a different owner) and this enterprising chap thought he could make a killing by buying it from the breakers and repairing it himself. Good luck with that, seeing as you obviously know diddly about Evoques.

Well, if he's taking specialist advice from an owners forum and if he's willing to do a "bit" of work, a loom from a Ford Fiesta will work.

Looks like it ain't an isolated incident.
No wonder JLR are getting insurance companies to write them off.....it could cost em fortune!

My heater stuck on hot once and no end of twiddling with knobs and buttons could turn it off, climate wouldn't work, you could alter the temp on the dials but the temp never changed, after a while of sweating my gonads off the whole centre screen and dashboard turned itself off, was alright the following day, mentioned it to LR while it was in for tailgate alignment and they just did a software update, that just meant we ain't got a clue!

One thing bugs me about modern cars is the fact that wiring is getting much thinner, and cannot carry as much current. Thin wiring cannot take short circuits ie heavier currents and can catch fire a lot easier.

I was recently adding fog lights to my daughters Smart car and needed a connection to the headlight and was very shocked how thin the wiring was, so much so I had to use a scotch connector to get a tee connection, rather than break into the wire.
