Hi all,

Seems like January is the month that my cars are playing up.

My wife's Evoque has an issue with the central locking and the alarm whereas you try to lock it and it gives the double beep as if one of the doors, boot or bonnet is open. Having read a few posts here I narrowed it down to the bonnet sensor thingy as previously advised by others. Last night I went to investigate further to find that the bonnet was stuck and the release leaver goes not appear to work.

I fear the cable may have snapped, or the bonnet has gone down in a odd position following a recent washer fluid top up. Some questions:

Has anyone else had this problem?
Can the bonnet be opened another way?

Thought I would get some opinions before I send it to an independent and my wallet suffers further this month .

when you pull the bonnet release handle, is there any resistance in it? 
If not, then chances are you snapped the cable/come unhooked. 

If there is some resistance, maybe spray some wd40 (through the grill) into the latch. It may have just seized. 

Failing that, "nudge" the latch with a screw driver to see if the catch is misaligned. 

Worst case, break the grill to get to the latch.

This may not work but try getting someone to push down on the bonnet while you're pulling the lever inside the car.

Worth a try at least.

But be careful not to leave hand indents on the bonnet itself.

It happened to an R32 I had.

Thanks I will have a try this evening and report back. I may try and pull back the carpet lining to see if I can trace the cable. Not easy in the dark evenings...

No resistance on the cable, it does feel like the cable isn't engaged.

No joy people, I tired:

Pulling the lever and pumping the bonnet
Fishing through to the bonnet catch

I also removed the footwell plastics and managed to get hold of the cable and give it a pull which does retract back into position.

I have a feeling this is something to do with the central locking as it appears that some locking system is not disengaged.

Some help, can someone advise the position of their door locks when open and closed with the fob. i.e. the top of the internal door handle when the car is remotely locked and when open? Ours appears to be in the locked position permanently.

The car is at the end of the month for a service with LR, they will have to sort it otherwise they wont be able to do it.

in terms of door locks - when its locked, the "wedge" should be pushed in flush with the handle. 
When open, the wedge should be sticking out. 
Hope that makes sense. 

On the bonnet - there is not lock mechanism linked to the central locking - there is a sensor that tells the car if the bonnet is open or closed - but the central locking has no mechanical impact on it. 

Honestly, you might have to break the plastic grill to get access to the mechanism.

oh! one thing you may not realise is that the evoque has two bonnet latches. 
red circles are cabled controlled latches. 
blue circle is the bonnet latch (manual lever).
